BOTOX® 
BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA-approved to reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. The versatile injectable can address additional concerns as well, including excessive underarm sweat. BOTOX® Cosmetic is consistently the most popular minimally-invasive treatment available, with millions of injections administered each year. 

BOTOX® Cosmetic is made of a purified protein. To relax wrinkles and lines, this protein temporarily limits the activity of targeted facial muscles. For excessive sweating, the protein works by blocking signals to specific sweat glands.

BOTOX® is administered with an injection, below the surface of your skin. Once injected into the targeted muscle, it relaxes the repeated muscle activity that causes these wrinkles to form. For example, the vertical lines between your eyebrows are formed by years of facial expressions. As the years pass, the lines become deeper and more pronounced. BOTOX® halts the creasing of the skin.

The injections themselves are described as painless by most people. You may feel a slight pinch as the needle is inserted, but the vast majority of our patients tolerate the treatment very well. 

Immediately after a BOTOX® Cosmetic injection, you can expect the injection sites to have some redness and swelling. You will notice the product taking effect within 3-5 days, although some people notice the effect in the first 24 hours. The optimal results will be seen at 2 weeks, lasting up to 3 months.

NO DOWNTIME REQUIRED 

The great thing about this injectable and others like it is that there is no downtime. After your appointment, you may return to work or your other routine activities. You should avoid rubbing the injection sites for 24-48 hours. Any minor bruising or redness can usually be concealed with cosmetics.

JUVEDERM® 

The Juvederm® family of fillers are hyaluronic acid-based products. The effective and popular range includes options such as:

How is Botox different than dermal fillers? 

While the end goal may be the same, to erase or dramatically reduce the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and areas of volume loss, dermal fillers and neuromodulators go about it in entirely different ways. 

Dermal fillers, as their name implies, “fill” a wrinkle from beneath. They are classified as either “natural” or “synthetic” fillers. They work on “static” wrinkles — these are the wrinkles that are on display at all times, such as nasolabial folds or lip lines. 

Natural fillers such as Juvéderm® are made mainly from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that is responsible for hydrating and plumping the skin. It does this by binding with nearby water molecules. 

Botox® works on what is called “dynamic” wrinkles. These are the wrinkles that form on the skin surface when we make certain expressions, such as frowning or squinting. These occur on the upper third, the expressive, area of the face. Over time, making these repeated expressions begins to form wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the brows (the 11s), and on the forehead. But when Botox® is injected into the muscle that forms the wrinkle on the skin above, it stops the muscle from contracting, so the wrinkle above never forms.
